Type with your phone’s keyboard
- Connect True Remote to your Apple TV (the connection guide shows how) and upgrade to Premium.
- On the Apple TV, select a search box or any other text field.
- In True Remote, tap Keyboard.
- Type your text. Choose Add to end to keep what is already in the field, or Replace all to start again.
- Tap Send to TV. Your text appears in the field on the TV.
To empty a field, tap Clear TV text. It also works for passwords, so you can skip the on-screen keyboard.
Dictate instead of typing
- On the Apple TV, open a text field.
- Hold the microphone on the remote, speak, then let go.
- Your words are added to the field. Text that was already there is kept.
The first time, True Remote explains how dictation works, then Android asks to allow the microphone. Tap Allow (on some phones While using the app) and hold the microphone again. Dictation uses your phone’s language by default, and you can pick another in True Remote’s Settings.
Dictation types what you say into the TV’s text field. It isn’t Siri and doesn’t run voice commands.
Allow the microphone
If you tapped Don’t allow, or you want to check the setting, the steps depend on your phone. You can still type with the phone keyboard in the meantime.

OnePlus, Motorola, Oppo, Realme, Vivo and other phones
Phone makers rename these menus, but this route works on almost every Android phone:
- Touch and hold the True Remote icon on your home screen or in your app list, then tap App info (sometimes shown as an i icon).
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Microphone and choose Allow only while using the app (or While using the app).
Can’t find it? Use the search at the top of Settings and type “True Remote”.
Questions
Can I type on Apple TV with my Android phone keyboard?
Yes, with True Remote Premium. Select a text field on the Apple TV, tap Keyboard in True Remote, type and tap Send to TV. Your text appears in the field on the TV.
Can I dictate text to Apple TV from my Android phone?
Yes, with True Remote Premium. Open a text field on the Apple TV, hold the microphone in True Remote, speak and let go. Your words are added to the field.
Is dictation the same as Siri?
No. Dictation types what you say into the TV’s text field. It isn’t Siri and doesn’t run voice commands.
