Block YouTube Shorts and keep regular videos
ShortBlocker only blocks Shorts. Home, search, subscriptions, channels, comments and long videos all keep working. When a Short opens, ShortBlocker steps you out of it and shows a notice. It is a free Android app with no ads and no account.
Updated 15 October 2026. For ShortBlocker 1.1.1 on Android 8 or later.
How to block YouTube Shorts
- Install ShortBlocker from Google Play.
- Open it and switch on YouTube.
- Tap Open settings, find ShortBlocker in Android’s Accessibility list, switch it on and tap Allow. The setup guide has the exact menus for Google Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi and other phones.
That’s all. Watch YouTube as usual: long videos play, and a Short is left as soon as it opens.
What keeps working in YouTube
- Regular videos. Long videos play normally.
- Home, search, subscriptions and channels. Only Shorts are blocked.
- Comments. They keep working on the videos you watch.
One difference from the other apps: a Shorts link a friend sends you opens in YouTube’s Shorts player, so it is blocked. Websites aren’t covered either, because ShortBlocker works in the YouTube app, not in a web browser.
Free or Premium?
The free plan blocks one app at a time, so you can choose YouTube and change it whenever you like. Premium blocks YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat at the same time. Both have no ads and no account. See the plans.
If a short video is ever missed, or something is blocked by mistake, tap Report a screen in the app (or Wrong? on the blocked notice). It takes two taps and we’ll fix it.
